1 Corinthians 10:7
Comments
They invented their own worship. They said, ‘We will have God, Jehovah, but we will also have idols we can see’, and they are condemned for that. That is what happened when Aaron made for them a golden calf. Moses came down from the mountain with the Commandments, and heard the voice of singing and shouting, and there were the people cavorting about, and dancing, and doing all the things that they had done in primitive days. So they were condemned, because they were mixing the things of God with the things that are not of God. That can never be done. ‘Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand’ – see Numbers 25. This refers to the time when Israel committed whoredom with the daughters of Moses, and the plague that God sent was only ended when Phinehas judicially killed one of the Israelite men and Moabite women involved, and was commended by God for his zeal. Look at the punishment of that generation. ‘And fell in one day three, and twenty thousand.’
Application
Many Christians want to invent their own worship, just like the world. They want visible things, things they can feel and sense. They say, ‘We will have the Lord; we will have Christ; we will have the doctrines of grace; we will have the word of God, but we will also have the rock, and the rap music, and everything else.’
Are Christian people lured him onto the Internet looking at pornography and disgusting things, and polluting their minds, and betraying their marriages – ‘Neither let us commit fornication’ – and if they only knew it, preparing their hearts for even bigger sins of fornication.
