All kinds of suggestions are made as to what Paul means. The best and most obvious, are simply the trunk and the loins: that in virtually all cultures will be covered and clothed, and thus made honourable.
In the church, one member does not expose the failings or weaknesses of another member. There should be no gloating at the sin of others, but a desire that every other believer should make progress and be kept safe from falling. Two of Noah’s sons sought to cover over the shame of their father when he fell into sin. ‘A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter’ (Proverbs 11:13). The apostle Paul said, ‘Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not?’ (2 Corinthians 11:29).
