What is it that makes anyone glory in men? It is their assessment that men possess true riches, what is of real value; that they are the ones who have knowledge, influence, and power. In short, they have glory and therefore they are the ones to associate with, to identify with, to boast in.
Do you say, ‘I don’t think much of life; it has so many tragedies and sorrows. I don’t particularly want this life.’ Yes, but we should not think like that. For all its difficulties, this life also is ours. The unbeliever does not have Christ, hope, or a friend in heaven; he does not have blessing, understanding, or answers to the meaning of life. Even if next week is to be a week of hardships, it will be a week in which you can say that all things work for our good. If the only thing God does is to help us see that heaven is better than earth, what in advance we will have made! Make the most of each day. Older people sometimes say ‘I don’t recall making the most of my children when they were young. I could have entered into their joys much more.’ Well, don’t let that happen in the spiritual life. This life is ours and we can live it like no unbeliever can.
