This is about the duties and the lives of God's ministers. Let a man so account of us, estimate us, assess us as ministers, preachers, pastors, and Christian workers.
Assess us on that basis, says the apostle, and not only us, but assess your Corinthian preachers on the same basis. That is what you must do. Does he evangelise, make known Christ, persuade souls, reason with the people? Number one duty of the minister or the preacher: Is he an evangelist? Number two: does he teach the doctrines of the faith and clearly. Number three: does he exhort? Does he apply the doctrines? You can teach them without applying them, and the term exhortation covers a whole spectrum, from encouragement to reproof, but does he apply those Scriptures to the lives, to the living of the people? Fourthly, does he try to convey something of the glory of God and the wonder of Christ: his attributes and is lovingkindness, so that people just feel something of the greatness and the power of God? There are four areas in which he must work.
