1 Corinthians 5:13

The unbelieving world will not escape judgment just because it does not come under the jurisdiction of the churches. Paul’s warning applies: ‘But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God’ (Romans 2:5). God remembers all that has taken place in the history of the world, those long dead and long forgotten. They are in his hands and that is very terrible for them. How thankful the believer can be that even when under church discipline, he is still in the hands of the Lord who administers a much gentler discipline to his people, and one which has a hopeful outcome.
Application
But unlike the world which is delivered over to Satan without any hope, the church must be kept pure. God’s standard must be applied. ‘Purge out therefore the old leaven.’ Do not let it take you over. Get rid of the old life. If you do not think your life has ever been changed, come to God in repentance and faith. Value not only the doctrine – which is precious and the basis of everything, belief in that is vital – but value also the new life, and be sure that God has changed you and transformed you.
