He does not mean that marriage is trouble. Marriage is a great blessing, and a wonderful institution, and a wonderful source of happiness. But it is trouble, not in the sense of being unpleasant or objectionable, but because it has got all sorts of extra commitments and duties; of course it has.
Application
We are to love our wives and our husbands, and we are to be responsible for the bringing up of a family, and you have got a much bigger unit to provide for and to care for, and those are all burdens and responsibilities and worries. Hopefully, they are wholesome and happy ones, but they are compassed under this word ‘trouble’. ‘I would spare you that’, says the apostle, though he knows that it is right that most people will be married.
