You cannot avoid times of grief: bereavement, great disappointment in things that go radically wrong sometimes. But at the same time, even in a time of grief, don't forget to praise and worship God. Don't forget to live for him. ‘They that weep, as though they wept not.’ Do not be completely consumed by the grief, that you think about it all day long. Ration your thoughts. Remember, you owe God your worship and your praise and your service. You have to cheer others even in the midst of your own grief. ‘And they that rejoice as though they rejoiced not’ – everything is going so well. Remember the Lord. Do be carried away with your successes or triumphs in this life, as if you could switch and make this present life the source of all your joy. ‘They that buy as though they possessed not’ – do not let your business life carry you away so that you eat and sleep for your job, and it is everything to you, and all your business ambitions consume you, and you no longer serve the Lord.
