No, it is not such a great thing. Every Christian who loves the Lord and understands what it is to receive forgiveness of sins, free salvation, and eternal life will agree with this. God’s grace comes freely to us in Christ, and the idea of being stingy to God in return with our physical things is shameful. Rather the opposite attitude should be in us. We owe all that we have to God. How can we withhold anything from him? We cannot pay for salvation, not even for the smallest part, but if we could, how much greater value we should set on it than on any earthly possessions or wealth we have accrued! So as a good will offering we ought to be ready to finance the Lord’s work and support the Lord’s ministers. They have given up much to serve the Lord and forfeited wealth and comfort in this life, because they have a higher calling. We set a high value on the ministry; we thank God for the benefit we receive due to their commitment and sacrifice for him.
