Although God has provided for the confession and forgiveness of sin, the gospel is given to us so that we do not sin. None who see the gospel as an excuse for sin or an encouragement to sin have understood it, and their lives expose the fact that they are not God’s children.
Pastors will have deep affection for those under their care and communicate this to them. This affection makes it possible to give serious warnings without causing offence.
It should not be hard for church members to submit to those placed over them in the Lord if the government of the church is carried out in a kindly and fatherly way.
Paradoxically, when we are most aware of our sin, we most earnestly strive for holiness.
