The desire to be like Christ is the engine of change in the believer, and the anticipation of seeing him is a powerful incentive for sanctification. The moment we believe in Christ, we know him to be pure, and as we gain knowledge and experience in the Christian life this conviction only deepens. The hope that we will see him face to face intensifies our shame over sin, and reminds us that without holiness no man shall see the Lord, so that the whole Christian life is a preparation for the day when we will stand before him from whom no secret can be hidden.
Application
Those who have this enlivening hope do not wait till he appears before they start to purify themselves. The hope of seeing him as he is, makes us prepare for that day immediately.
