1 John 5:12 Commentary and Bible Study

By this saying John excludes all those who try to come to God by any other way than that established by apostolic doctrine. All who think that they do not need a mediator, or who try to find a mediator among men or angels will be thrust away from God. None are fit to come to God, and if any behave as if they are sufficient without Christ, they are ignorant of the holiness of God and have never seen their own unworthiness. Christ is made to his people ‘wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption’ (1 Corinthians 1:30), therefore without him we are shut out of heaven, for ‘there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life’ (Revelation 21:27).
