If you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, ‘happy are ye.’ Why is that? Because you know, there is blessing for you.
It is a badge of honour for the believer to suffer for righteousness’ sake. He will not be moved from obedience to Christ and remains loyal to his Lord even though there is a price to pay. He remains calm in the face of such trials, for Scripture tells the believer why these things are happening. Therefore, he waits patiently to receive his reward at the coming of Christ and is not unduly disturbed by the loss of goods in this world.
Are you a parent? Have you got a difficult child, going through a very difficult phase, and you've got to somehow, by the grace of God, hold out in great patience, be a friend to that child as much as opportunity affords, and not react badly? You must be firm at times, but always that firmness is suffused with kindness and friendship. Is that your situation? You get insulted, and unreasonable things are done? ‘But and if you suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye’, because the Lord sees and knows and will bless and strengthen you, and may answer your prayers sooner than you think, and that phase may pass, and there may be rich rewards spiritually, and personally to be reaped.
