The apostle Peter draws the strongest contrast between where Christ’s enemies would have like to dispatched him, and where in fact God has elevated him. This is said for the encouragement of all who follow in Christ’s footsteps and face suffering for his name’s sake.
God will equally reward all those who suffer for the name of Christ in this life, so that patience is called for. To aid our patience, God has already exalted his Son, and he will later exalt his people to be with him. All your suffering and your hardship, all the measures taken against you by anyone; if prayer doesn't relieve them, Christ means you to bear them and to honour him through them, and to love your oppressor and to bless them and pray for them. In due time he will bring some wonderful positive life-giving blessing out of it.
