But then in the appointment there are to be a number of signs: at least three, possibly four. This is important, because Saul doesn't appear to be a very spiritual man.
It is the same for us. When we come to Christ, you may be by nature an effervescent sort of person, a jolly person, a quick-witted person, a cheerful person. When you come to Christ, you don't necessarily lose that – that can make you very pleasurable company. But you also get a very solemn side. You can be serious; you can be moved; you can have a deep realisation of who you are: a child of God, his property, in his service, committed to him. You think back across your testimony, and it makes you solemn, and you rededicate yourself to him. You think back across the centuries to the father of our nation, as it were, Christ Jesus the Messiah, suffering and dying for millions and for you. You have now a serious side, a deeper side, and if you're working for the Lord in any capacity, you need that very much. It is the foundation of all that you do.
