‘And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place.’ That means he built an altar.
Are we fully obedient to the Lord? Are we really yielded to him? We could go through umpteen categories of the Christian life. Ignoring Christian witness for now, what about works of kindness which we are commanded to do: in the home, among our loved ones, to colleagues, people around us? What about our good works? Is it only once in a while? Twenty percent, fifty percent, maybe sixty percent? And yet here are we saying, ‘I obey the Lord.’ We are thinking like Saul. Consider stewardship. Is it fifty percent effort? Not really heart and soul in it for the work of God: sixty percent? Surely that is enough. We say like Saul: ‘I have fully obeyed and complied’, and he hadn't. He had left out the king; he taken the spoil. That was nothing like ‘obedience to the Lord’. He foolishly, justified himself, and thought he had accomplished all that was necessary.
