1 Samuel 2:11

Elkanah is fully in agreement with Hannah’s plan. It is her plan, and she has prepared everything for this day, but he supports her in it. She goes home without Samuel, but she has something better than a son. She has given a gift to the Lord, and we can never lose by giving to the Lord. The Lord is no man’s debtor, and he will give back many times over what we give to him.The child Samuel learned to carry out the rites and the ceremonies; he ministered. The way it’s put, it certainly leads you to believe that, even from early years, he knew the Lord. He did it sincerely, as unto the Lord. He was under the tuition of Eli, but he ministered. So he was an apprentice Levite, but it seems he was more. He was treated by Eli as an apprentice priest, and although the order of Levites is separate from the order of priests, there does seem to be in this portion of the Bible a certain crossing over between them, and so was the case with Samuel.
