You see their motive. It was the ultimate reformation of the people that they would be saved, that they would have new lives, that they would walk with God, that they would be assured, that they would have tremendous experience of communion with God.
‘Who hath called.’ Have we been called? Are we conscious of being those who are called by God? How do you look at salvation? Oh I heard the gospel, I felt I was a sinner. I needed a Saviour. I repented of my sin. I trusted in Christ, he changed my heart and life, and I follow him. Yes, but let me give you an even richer biblical way of looking at your salvation. I heard the call of Christ. The gospel came to me as a summons, a call personally. I was called to come out of my sin and to trust in Christ for salvation. He spoke to me: ‘I will save you, I will forgive you and cleanse you. I will give you new life. I will make you mine.’ I have heard the personal call and I could not let it go. I tried to resist and I wanted to stay with the world and my personal ambition and everything else, but there was a call, and it had summoned me, and it had attached itself to my heart, and I had to respond.
