Then in verse 10 we have the petitions: ‘Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith.’ The word faith comes up repeatedly in the passage.
How many people sadly when they are saved learn just a few parts of the Christian faith. It is not complete. You need to read the doctrines of the faith. Get hold of the Puritan Thomas Watson’s book, in paperback, ‘A Body of Divinity’. See the whole system of faith so brilliantly condensed and expressed that it moves your heart and it excites you. Then you will say, ‘I never knew how that agreed with that, and this met together. And the whole structure was formed of the principle doctrines of the faith. You will say to yourself, this is wonderful, this is extraordinary. This is better than the periodic table in chemistry that we remember from school days, and all this kind of thing. This works as a system. I now understand it all.’ You are not advancing until you are learning those things.
