We are able to accomplish them all by his help, and then we will be blessed and used. We must strive. If you take the striving out, and you say no, I have heard, ‘Let go, let God; that appeals to me’, then what are you going to do with all the exhortations which precede. You cannot leave out the striving. ‘Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it’ – the Lord will do it, and that is the wonder of God’s word. Wrong thoughts will come into captivity. Tastes will refine. Pleasures will be increasingly centred on spiritual things. Love between husbands and wives will increase wonderfully. Nature will be kindly and outgoing. Temper will be powerfully in check. Lies which are so hated by God will be increasingly vanquished in all their forms. Spiritual compassion will come uppermost in our thinking and our actions. We will be wonderfully refined and purified. God will do it. We strive and we pray, but he will do it. They are very challenging words, but they are very encouraging words. We have the help of the Almighty God himself, by the Spirit to perform.God will keep every believer all the way to heaven, but also it means that we can guarantee that we do not fall if only we keep dependant on the Lord. You will be given power to resist forces that would bring you down. How do we know? He has called us and he will not afterwards make his mind to do something different.
