What is the matter with us? Now I do not want to be unduly harsh, but if we are inattentive and not examining ourselves and not watching for temptation and trouble, then it could be that pride has swamped us. Something inside us says I do not need to. I have been a Christian forty years perhaps, fifty years, twenty years. I do not need to. It is pride that you have fallen into. I do not need to be diligent. I do not need self-examination. I do not need to be checking the gates and the water sources. It may be pride.
It may be unbelief. Unbelief? I believe in Christ, I believe in salvation. Yes, but you have stopped believing in the warfare: that the devil is hostile, and his campaign against you life-long is to bring you down. And he has thousands of fallen demons with him, and he is watching your every move, and every month of indolence spiritually, and he is seeking to bring you down. You have stopped believing in the ugliness and the hatefulness of the devil, and the danger that you are in if not leaning on Christ and watching your soul. Dear friends, you are very vulnerable if that is the case.
