‘And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith’, given to me, ‘and love’ given to me, ‘which is in Christ Jesus.’ With that love came the desire to live righteously, always dependent upon the work of Christ, but now committed to voluntary righteousness, to please and worship and honour him. That is grace and that is the mark of grace. That is how you tell a true convert. He is striving, she is struggling, we are moving forward by the help and power of the Holy Spirit.‘Exceeding abundant’ – Christ forgives you at mass of sin, and gives you three or four times as much love and grace and kindness in exchange. So the apostle’s double superlatives are no exaggeration. You bring your sin to Christ, and he forgives you; and he gives you so much more.
