Did I not mean what I said? Am I a person who just makes light statements with little intention of carrying them out? Certainly it is part of fallen human nature to make light statements about future intentions and to care little if we deviate from our stated plans. But this is a matter of character, and the man of integrity does not speak lightly in this way. No, when Paul had originally told them about his plans to come to them, he had meant what he said, but events had forced him to change his plans.
