2 Corinthians 11:11

‘Wherefore [Why is this]? Because I love you not? God knoweth. But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion.’ That is, they are looking for an opportunity to discredit me, saying I have taken your money. ‘…that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.’ Otherwise, when they take your money, they may say, ‘We are only doing the same as what the apostle did.’ So Paul was ready to face any personal disadvantage if by doing so he promoted the cause of the gospel.
Application
Our attitude must be the same. Do we fear the loss of friends by telling them we are concerned to follow Christ and serve him? Do we suspect that they will be ashamed of us for taking religion too seriously? God can give is new and closer friends if they desert us. Do we worry that we will not be promoted in the company if we are unwilling to do overturn on the Lord’s day and instead ask to be given time off for worship? No advantage that we gain for ourselves by weakening our testimony will be of any lasting benefit to us.
