‘In journeyings [travellings] often, in perils of waters…’ This is quite aside from shipwreck. Some of those voyages were very dangerous but the waters here actually refer probably to inland waterways, to the fording of swollen rivers.

‘In journeyings [travellings] often, in perils of waters…’ This is quite aside from shipwreck. Some of those voyages were very dangerous but the waters here actually refer probably to inland waterways, to the fording of swollen rivers. ‘In perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen.’ Yes, several assassination attempts were made by the Jews. ‘In perils by the heathen [the Gentiles], in perils in the city [mobs raised against him], in perils in the wilderness [presumably from robbers], in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren’, betrayed and deceived by people who had claimed to be Christians but they were not, and had now turned against him and were plotting against him. The Judaisers, these false teachers, were hand in glove with the local synagogues and they would betray Paul to the local synagogues, when he was due to come and preach in any place.
