2 Corinthians 11:31 Commentary and Bible Study

Paul appeals to God who knows all things including the secrets of Paul’s heart to verify the accuracy of all that he has said. The Corinthians know that the apostle Paul would never do such a thing falsely and therefore they can have the highest confidence that all he has told them about his suffering is true. He calls upon God as the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, that is, in relation to the work of redemption which Christ undertook for his people.Why does Paul say this and not simply expect the Corinthians to take him at his word? He has to do this because he knows that there is a battle for the truth and that the Judaizers have been attacking his integrity. Who will the Corinthians trust? Will it be the apostle who brought them the gospel and who always speaks without guile, or will it be the Judaizers whom he is forced to denounce a false? He knows that it is rare to find a man of truth, and that it is part of human to lie and to exaggerate, but as an apostle of Christ he has put all such things to death and can speak only what God is able to witness is true. Therefore they can trust him fully.
