This verse speaks also of the need for real dependence upon Christ, upon the apostolic word, the inspired Word of God. Now, although Corinth was a good church, it did not speak up in defence of the truth, when the false teachers came in.
That is what is going on today. You can pick up endless books and there are people having pretended revelations and visions and they are saying, ‘We should do this, we should do that.’ None of it is in the Bible. They are just making it up and they go along. The more extravagant things they make up, the more certain types of people listen to them. We are to be dependent upon the power of the Lord and dependent on the word of God and that alone.
