It seems a difficult verse but it means this. ‘This sinful man has not personally grieved me. It is not a personal offence to me,’ says Paul. Nobody had insulted him, nobody had done anything against him. ‘It is a grievous sin in your church and it is a sin against God but then, when I wrote to you, you dealt with it, and now I am so glad to hear that and I forgive him also. Of course, I am grieved about it but I am speaking to you from the outside and if he has repented, I, like you, am willing to forgive him.’
