The truth taught by the illustration of the veil is still at work today. Even today, Paul says, there is a blindness that operates in the hearts of many who carry out the rites and ceremonies of the Mosaic law, for they do not understand the meaning of what they do. Their know enough to follow the practices which generations of Jews before them have held on to, but they do not grasp that these things are only symbols and that the reality is found in Christ. They reject the Messiah and his people and think that in holding on to Moses they are being faithful to God. But God always intended that the law would be a tutor, and not that the child would never grow up.
