These next few verses go together. They are about weighing things up.
Use your mind weigh up the alternatives. ‘But though our outward man perish’ – the thinking begins. The outward person will perish: the body, our present possessions. So what then if it is taken from us; so what if our goods are seized? These troubles only attack the outward person. But God is blessing the inner person. The enduring things are being built up. We are allowed many outward things by God in this life. You may buy things for your home and for your person. Is it wrong? No, but put a barrier up. Don’t overdo it. Don’t love them more than the Lord. Don’t wander around your house virtually worshipping it.
