This is made quite clear because the apostle Paul immediately quotes from Isaiah 49.8 – ‘For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee.
It is the same with us today. God could say to us, ‘How can you, my churches, have those who are living for the kingdom of Christ and living for the world both in the same church?’ That is why we don’t want the bands and we don’t want the performers and the singers and all the worldly music and everything which is done in obvious imitation of godless, worldly culture. How can you do this? We have to be most careful as a church, as individual Christians. All around us we find there are people who should know better, Christians who are just giving in to forces which are exactly the opposite of things which should be cherished in churches, that the Lord wants. We do not want to become a bitter people or a negative people, but we have to love the gospel and love souls and love Christ and keep away all those things that will ruin the preaching of the gospel of Christ.
