2 Corinthians 8:22 Commentary and Bible Study

Here Paul refers to a third unnamed brother – ‘And we have sent with them our brother [that is another one], whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things.’ Whoever this was, he had been tested by being given tasks to do for the Lord and he had proved himself worthy of this trust. Now he was being given the task of conveying the Corinthian offering and it was essential that God’s people had full confidence in him. It is a principle of Scripture that a person proves themselves trustworthy and diligent in lesser tasks before they are given greater tasks.‘But now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you.’ Having heard Titus report of the Corinthian church, this unnamed brother has become even more confident in them, and this confidence makes him ready to carry out the task on their behalf of bringing their gift to Jerusalem with even more diligence than otherwise. They will have someone acting for them who thinks highly of them, and they will not wish to disappoint him by being slow in bringing forward their gift.
