Do you not know, he says, they will pray for you and they will ‘long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you.’ In other words, thanking God for his grace in you. They will give thanks to God not only for remembering them and providing for them in their need, but for the way that he did it. They will give thanks for the feelings of compassion and love in fellow believers who sent forth such a gift. God is sovereign over the hearts of his people and arouses feelings generosity in them, and Paul does everything in his power to further stimulate these feelings.
