2 John 1:12
Comments
The epistle is closed, beautifully. ‘Speak face to face’ is a delicate translation; the Greek says ‘speak mouth to mouth’. Exchange conversation; speak much ‘that our joy may be full.’ What does this have to do with it? We see that John looked forward to further fellowship with the recipient of this letter. It is natural for Christians to want to be together and of course that anticipation is especially focused on heaven where we will appreciate Christ in all his glory and speak of his wonders to each other constantly. John was an apostle who desired joy, love and happiness among God’s people. All his faithful warnings were to this end: that God’s people should be kept from false teaching which would ruin them and steal from their joy in Christ. John ends this epistle on the same note on which he began. May Christians love each other in the Lord and speak much to each other about wholesome things, about spiritual things, about wonderful things which they share together in Christ.
