2 John 1:3
Comments
This greeting rounds up all that he has said. It is not so much a prayer as an affirmation: ‘Grace shall be with you.’ This is not a hollow greeting. We need three things: grace – undeserved favour, mercy – forgiving love, and peace, experimental felt sense of peace – ‘from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father.’ It is clear why the Sonship of Christ is emphasised under inspiration, because the apostle is going to say more about that subject in this letter. We will experience all of these under certain circumstances, on certain terms – in truth and in love – if we are loyal to the truth, not just vaguely loyal to the fundamentals, but conscientious as believers, cultivating a spirit of outgoing love.

Questions
Why is there a distinction between the love of the Father and of the Son? He anticipates what he will deal with. Some claim to believe in the Father but not the Son, but they cannot love the Father and not the Son.
