This can be very subtle. Some may say, ‘You evangelicals actually take the Bible literally. We know better. It is a useful book, but we have to judge the Bible and decide what is the word of God. We even decide what are the words of Christ and what was put in his mouth by the apostles.’ Rome has done the same: ‘We are the authority , and we decide what is true, and how to interpret Scripture.’ Now there are sections of the Charismatic movement which are getting into the same category. ‘The Spirit has told us this or that; we are way ahead of you.’ Even occult things have been made legitimate. Not all Charismatics go this far, for many are Christians, but some are quite happy to get alongside Rome; they see no difference between their ideas and Rome’s.
