Not only does he praise God but in verse four we read something rather unusual. The apostle Paul allows himself some pride.
So where did the faith come from that they had to withstand these persecutions? Paul is praising God for their faith, he gave it to them (Ephesians 2.8). God gives us the faith, praise him for it. What a transformation, what a change to have him and to grasp the message of the Gospel but to be brought to him and to know him. Keep it, friends, exercise it. He gave it to you, but you must exercise it, or it will fade and weaken and droop. But God sustains us and helps us. And Paul is able to praise God for the strength that he gave to the Thessalonians.
Patience and faith are closely linked together. Faith is ready to wait for God’s answer without turning to doubt. Faith means you continue to pray, and not just pray once. It has been called the ‘greenhouse of faith’.
