The word ‘prating’ is an old-fashioned word but the Greek word means something like ‘overflowing with talk’. One or two modern translations have decided that it means talking nonsense.
Mark you, you see it echoed today in our own national church in the Church of England. Their ordinary local congregations do not have a church meeting or local elders, steeped in Scripture, who work alongside the preacher in the pulpit and ensure everything that is done is always Scriptural and biblical. Oh no, there is a hierarchical structure, and you get your vicars and your rectors and your ministers, and then you get your bishops and your arch-bishops, your pyramid, your big man at the top. And they organise a synod of people, and the party system always operates in that way. They make the decisions themselves and they do not ask, ‘What saith the Scripture?’ So when they wanted to bring in women ministers contrary the Scripture the synod decided, they have the authority and the arch-bishop. They decided it for themselves. You do not obey 1 Timothy 3 for qualifications for ministers. You make up your own rules and impose them and bully people and insist they do it your way or you expel them. Soon it will be same-sex marriage in the Church of England. Will they find that in the Scripture? Oh no, they will not look to the Scripture that synod, they will do what they think, they will do what they want.
