This final sentiment is in 2 John also. He wants to speak face to face. Fellowship and friendship – do we pray for this? Peace means freedom from molestation. We cannot pray that we should be delivered from spiritual warfare since it is the will of God for all his people, but we can pray for peace with God and deliverance from untoward molestation. Pray for a brother or sister going through sever temptation. ‘Greet the friends by name.’ Whatever does the apostle John mean by that as we close? He does not name them. But he gives the instruction to Gaius, ‘Greet the friends by name.’ What is so important about ‘by name’? Well actually, it is a kind of figure of speech and it roughly means, greet individually for me. Greet them personally. They are friends, loved ones. Do not say, just you lot; each one has a name. John sends his greetings: speak to them one by one. Let them know I think of each person and I send my greetings. It is just a little insight into the importance attached to friendship and fellowship.
