Fellow labourers is the translation of this term ‘fellowhelpers’ elsewhere in the New Testament. Paul uses it a lot – ‘to be a fellow labourer’. In Matthew 10 The Lord Jesus Christ says, You give a prophet a cup of cold water, help him, identify with him in any way you can, you have a prophet’s reward. You are a fellow labourer, a fellow worker in God’s sight you are of the same significance. Gaius, says the apostle John, you go supporting the workers who go out, give them hospitality, pay their charges, send them on their way provided for the next step, and in God’s sight it is as though you are one of them. You are enabling them. It is a tremendously strong term. So supporting workers overseas is not just a secondary operation that churches do; it is something of vital importance. We support them overseas and we have the prophets’ reward, and we support as many as we can, and properly, and the Lord will bless us even on that account.
