And isn’t it an amazing manifestation of worldwide atheism and unbelief, the present attitude to global warming and things of this sort? Now, it is not for me to comment on the science that we are told about. It seems the majority of scientists go quite along with this, that we are producing global warming. A small minority say that it is not so, I am not commenting on this, whether or not global warming is produced by human conduct, waste and so on. It is a good thing that we do burn less oil and we are less wasteful, it’s a good thing that we don’t pollute our towns and cities. So whether you believe in global warming, and the explanation of global warming, or not, it’s a very good thing to take some of the measures that are prescribed today. But what I am complaining about is this: here is a world in defiance of God, a world in unbelief, a world now openly promoting the rejection of all God’s standards and values and re-writing its own moral ideas. This is a world, which will therefore be under the judgement of God. Now if there is a hastening of the end, if there is a breakdown now in various powers and components of this present world’s system, causing men to fear, then it is to God that they should look, but, no, what does man do? Eliminate God – I have got to have a totally rational explanation of this. I have got to be able to develop a theory, an explanation as to why these things are happening which has nothing to do with God. And, furthermore, I am capable of prescribing a remedy, if only I can persuade other people around the world to go along with it. This is the present atheism.
Exactly the same with the Jews of old. They were insecure, and they would come under attack by enemies, and what did they do? Instead of saying, ‘We have not looked to God; we have offended him. Our prophets are telling us this constantly. We have turned to idolatry, to other religions and now he has withdrawn his protection from us and we are in danger’, they said, ‘No, we won’t accept that for a moment, we are alright, we have nothing to fear. What we will do is take matters into our own hands, we will send to Egypt for help. We will make alliances and we will solve the problem entirely by ourselves.’ And that is exactly what the atheistic world is doing today. The scientists can’t wholly agree, but frantic attempts are made to explain every shadow on the horizon, every problem in entirely material terms. There is no God to be taken account of. ‘We will not consider for a moment that we may have offended a Creator and we may have to change our ways and we may have to turn back to his standards.’ So if the world is under judgement, and is finally going to run out of resources, or there is going to be breakdown of all the supporting systems and mechanisms, there is nothing that man can do about that, any more than there was anything the Jews could do to stop the Babylonian invasion – it will take its course.
