Colossians 1:29

This is really part of the following chapter, the chapter division, uninspired of course, falls just in the wrong place. But the apostle says here of God, ‘which worketh in me mightily and it might sound as though he’s boasting, as we read it casually but, of course, he is doing no such thing. ‘I also labour, striving…’ by what power? Is it my own? No, he is saying the opposite to anything boastful. He is saying, ‘No, I can only do the things I do, I can only maintain the journeys and the pace, I can only stand up to the imprisonment, I can only write these letters or do anything I do because God helps me, because he enables me to do so and that is something we should all take to heart.
Application
There are so many who make great efforts to serve the Lord, to speak for him, to visit the community, to gather in and teach the children. Yes, but make sure we are always doing it in his strength, not in our own. Always daily for your daily round, pray to God for help and he will help you live for him and in his name and you too will be able to say, ‘Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily’ in answer to prayer.
