When you have received the teaching about Christ, you did not make it up yourself, you received it from the apostles and from Christ himself, but as you have received that and believed it, walk consistently with it. When we come to Christ, we are deeply humbled and we fall at his feet.
Here is the application to heresy and here is what is happening today in many cases. This is how it gets in. There are people all over Britain, all over the world, who preach the truth, the doctrines of grace, and they preach like Puritans, not in length perhaps, but in content, but they don’t walk according to what they teach, because there is a pop band on the platform, there is swaying about and everything crazy going on. There have been concessions to the new false teaching, the new heresy, there is a great chasm between what they say and what they do, what they teach and what they practice. Be careful you don’t let that happen. As you teach, so practice and if you teach the necessity of reverent worship, adherence to the word of God, seeking the guidance of God, make sure your church is in line with those things. As soon as it drifts off the mark and you have got this gap between the doctrine taught and the practices followed, heresy is in. It is in and you won’t stop it.
