The effect of this vision was similar to the effect of what John saw on Patmos. Both men were seeing a vision of the Son of God, the Son of man.
In real communion with the Lord we have this sense of uncleanness. Yet this sense of unworthiness is absent from the experiences reported in the Charismatic world. How could we ever stand before the presence of the Lord, unless we were prepared by him, unless we were justified by God, and clothed in the righteousness of Christ? We may wonder how we will ever be able to face the Lord, but he knows everything that needs to be done to prepare us for that moment, and he makes no mistakes. He will strengthen us so that no fear remains in us. We will have a far greater boldness to approach him than we have ever had on earth, and we will fully understand and be convinced by our justification through Christ and what he has achieved for us. Once he has made us ready, we will not cower before him in fear, but will rejoice in all that he has done for us.
Unbelieving men and women boast of what they will say, if they are ever brought into God’s presence. This is pure ignorance, for the words they imagine they will speak to God will shrivel up when faced with his glory. His presence is like a great light which illuminates all before it, and all the self-deception that man has practiced will be exposed. In that moment the unbeliever will immediately know how greatly he has miscalculated, how shamefully he has overestimated himself and underestimated the Lord, and how foolishly he has spoken. When his boasts are played back to him in the presence of God, he will long to flee from God’s presence and will not know where to hide. How will the lost ever stand before him? They will be deprived of the protecting arm of the Lord to make them ready.
