Here we have the emperor of the great Babylonian Empire, the king of Babylon, and more recently conqueror of Egypt and of Judah also, little Judah. Conqueror of many other nations, one who could be described aptly by Daniel as a king of kings, not given to him as a title, but just as description of his power on earth.
The dream is said to take place in the king’s second year? How can that be if Daniel has already been training for three years at the king’s instruction, and Nebuchadnezzar’s raid on Jerusalem was even before that? There are various possible answers. It is likely that he had been operating as prince regent at the time when Daniel and his friends had been brought to Jerusalem, and had only reigned alone for the last two years. Furthermore, it may be that as with Israel’s chronology, the accession year of the king was not counted.
