‘And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed’ – this is the stone cut out without hands, which strikes and shatters the image. In time of the Roman Empire comes the kingdom of Christ.
This is so amazing that unbelieving liberal, so-called Christian, scholars, commentators, of more recent centuries have said, ‘Oh, the Book of Daniel must have been written after all this happened.’ Of course they feel they must explain it that way. The extraordinary accuracy of the prophecies is so great that for a cynical unbeliever that is a natural reaction. But it isn't so. This was what was disclosed, and how powerfully it was disclosed! This knowledge went right through the empire. People would be made to think; people would be converted through it; Nebuchadnezzar would never be the same again. This is all about the great comparison of the power of man and the power of God.
