Nebuchadnezzar worshipped Daniel. He was overcome with the wonder of it, with Daniel’s bearing, with the simple modesty and straightforwardness with which he interpreted the dream.
Let us be content with the assignment that the Lord gives us. The Psalmist says, ‘For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. 7 But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another’ (Psalm 75:6-7). Daniel showed no signs of personal ambition. He did nothing to engineer this promotion. He knew that it was entirely of the Lord and he could therefore enter into it with a pure heart as something that was not for him but for the Lord. Promotion was then a privilege, an opportunity to glorify God. Such opportunities do not come to all, but when they come we must keep our eyes open and see them for what they are. This will prevent privilege and authority from going to our heads.
