‘I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in mine house,’ – wars are over; victories are accomplished – ‘and flourishing in my palace.’ He is in extremely good health, taking his leisure, possibly engaging in lion hunting, a popular royal pastime, and there is nothing in the world to worry him.
We may do the same, and go to those for advice who we think are going to tell us what we want to hear, what we have decided to do anyway, and not a Christian who will give advice from the Bible. We are thinking of indulging ourselves in an over-elaborate holiday, and find those who will say, ‘Go ahead; take three to four grand holidays and see the world. Never mind the Lord’s work and your commitment to the church, and to live modestly in this life.’ Or we want to buy something flamboyant and so ask someone with same outlook.
