At this point the queen enters the banquet house. Word has reached her of the writing on the wall and the terror it has produced.
How easily people can let slip from their minds any serious consideration of the great things that God has done in the past. The overconfidence of the present generation makes it think it owes nothing to the past.
Some of the new atheist writers have attacked the Bible at this point. One of the famous books that has come out in the last ten years, criticises everything imaginable in the Bible, and here was one typical criticism: that the Book of Daniel calls Nebuchadnezzar Belshazzar's father. ‘How absurd, how ridiculous!’ But if the learned writer of that unbelieving book had only looked it up and done his research, he would have found that in Hebrew and in Chaldean there is no word for grandfather, so you have to say father for a grandfather. There is no mistake here. If Nebuchadnezzar was his grandfather he would still be called his father in these languages. That is typical of the Book of Daniel and indeed the whole of the Old Testament.
