‘King Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth.’ Yes, but Darius is only the ruler of part of the Babylonian Empire.
What does it take to stop our devotions? Sad to say, Satan doesn't need a den of lions to stop us. Sometimes getting fascinated with some trivial stuff on the television just crowds out our devotions; sometimes we are preoccupied with something that we should be laying to one side that we are bothered about, or thinking about, or worrying about, instead of praying about; sometimes just mismanagement of time; sometimes a spell of tiredness. Satan doesn't need lions for us. With lions he couldn't stop Daniel. May we be unstoppable in devotion, love and faithfulness to the Lord. Daniel kept an absolute habit of prayer. We must keep our eyes chiefly on the way we live for the Lord, and on our final destiny.
Wouldn’t we like to see respect for the Lord today? In days of revival even unbelievers are solemnised and careful. This passage doesn’t say God will always preserve his people. God may not preserve us. It may be God’s will that we die as martyrs, but if so God may show the population the true character of the believer.
