Daniel, as the author of this narrative, writes it fairly tightly. You pass from one thing to another very swiftly with no wasted words.
What happens when we come under scrutiny? Are there all manner of things they can accuse us of? Have we been ungracious, lost our tempers, been slapdash? What a challenge to us! Can we stand up to this? There are bound to be mistakes we have made, as well as sloppiness at times. We must remember that we live in the presence of Christ, whose scrutiny is far greater than that of any man. He searches our hearts as well as our outward behaviour. The one who is conscious that he is accepted by Christ, does not fear the scrutiny of men. By grace he has already passed a higher court of judgment. But our testimony matters, and we must be aware that we are always being observed.
